As a spine and scoliosis surgeon, I constantly seek to provide the most superior care to my patients. I do this by offering contemporary methods of surgical spine care in the most minimally invasive manner possible. Driven by my desire to help others, I have always been inspired by the opportunity to reach underserved populations, and have treated both children and adults with spinal issues in communities as far as Colombia, Ghana, and Germany. My goal is to always listen to my patients and use my experience and skills to help improve their pain, function and overall their quality of life.
Throughout my career, I have consistently prioritized the role of education, not only for myself but also for my patients. It was my training at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York that has instilled a powerful desire to help educate my patients. I recognized that a well-informed patient is better equipped to participate in the shared decision-making process. I strive to optimize every patient’s experience in terms of empathy and understanding—as well as delivering the best possible health outcomes.
In my own learning, I continually push myself to read, to research, to listen to podcasts, and attend labs on spine surgery. This allows me to provide the most up to date medical care to my patient. I spent 3 years dedicated to spine research at NYUs Hospital for Joint Diseases prior to entering formal orthopedic training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. I completed my training with a fellowship in spine surgery at The Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, NY. I received amazing training along the way, nevertheless, I make sure to continue research in the field, staying up to date on the latest technology so I can always treat my patients with the most effective and minimally invasive methods available. I am a recipient of tens of thousands of dollars in research grants during my training which allowed me to continue my pursuit of higher knowledge. This culminated in dozens of peer-reviewed publications. This helps me continue to be a content expert in the field of spine surgery.
With over 15 years of experience in orthopedics and in spine surgery, I treat both adult and pediatric patients with neck, lower back, and spinal deformity issues. As a surgeon for Duly Health and Care (formerly DuPage Medical Group), I work at Edward, Elmhurst, and Hinsdale Hospitals, as well as Westmont Surgical Center. I communicate closely with my core team to provide outstanding care and a smooth experience for each and every patient.
I absolutely love my job, my family, and my hobbies. I seek out a healthy work-life balance to maintain a fresh outlook on life. I am an avid traveler, I love to explore new cultures through people and foods. Good food is one of life’s simplest pleasures, and it stimulates a deep passion I have for cooking. To maintain balance with food, I often seek out physical challenges also. I can often be found training for a marathon, preparing for a mountain climb, or hitting the slopes.
In practice, Dr. Patel uses contemporary methods and minimally invasive techniques to achieve surgical outcomes superior to traditional open surgery. We most commonly perform fusion surgeries, and are extremely well versed in the latest surgical modalities.

Sue’s story was one of great success. Sue had suffered from back problems for over 20 years. One day she picked up Healthwise Magazine and found an article about treating Adult Spinal Deformity featuring Dr. Patel. Dr. Ashish Patel performed her surgery and the results speak for themselves.

Dealing with orthopedic spinal issues and disorders can be a tough ordeal no matter who you are, and finding a specialist that can alleviate your pain and discomfort while curbing future problems is almost as difficult.
I believe that every appointment is forming or strengthening a partnership. I value communication and shared decision making between my patients and I. I want to ensure my patients are educated and understand all of their options; so that together we can formulate a personalized treatment plan which is right for them. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, especially when we gather around a good meal. I am always on the lookout for new and interesting recipes to try…
I have experience in working in several areas of nursing including correctional nursing, home health nursing, and orthopedic spine. This taught me how to care for different populations with a vast variety of medical issues. These skills have given me the ability to care for the needs of our spine patients as part of Dr. Patel’s health care team. I enjoy working with Dr. Patel and our team of medical assistants and physician assistants to care for patients with different spine conditions…
I started my healthcare experience in 2005 working as a certified nurse assistant in the cardiac critical care unit and the emergency department for 11 years. I then explored new opportunities as a licensed workman’s compensation adjuster for several years, until I was offered a great opportunity to work with Dr. Ashish Patel as his medical assistant at Duly Health and Care (formerly DuPage Medical Group). When you visit the Spine Center, I will be your first point of contact in the clinical setting…
