Active and Healthy in Her Early 70s, Woman Began Finding it Difficult to Complete Normal Everyday Activities.
Can’t stop, won’t stop…This woman is amazing!
In her early 70s, an active and otherwise healthy woman began finding it more and more difficult to complete normal everyday activities of daily living, let alone hobbies, exercise and a job she thoroughly enjoyed due to back pain.
She had a progressive degenerative scoliosis with significant loss of the lordosis in her lumbar spine. This led to a forward stooping posture, dynamic radicular symptoms and unrelenting back pain. We met and discussed the surgical options to correct this deformity and ultimately improve her quality of life. At one year post-op, she is back working full time and pain free.
There are many ways to approach these pathologies. Michael R. Conti Mica, MD and I used the TLIF technique, osteotomy and posterior stabilization to optimize the patients sagittal and coronal alignment.
How would you have approached this case?
